For many people, the recent holidays are a time of giving, and there are many ways to exercise one’s charitable spirit. For Equity Residential employee Yanita, she always knew exactly how she wanted to give back: partnering with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago through a toy drive at Equity’s Chicago office. Yanita says organizing and committing to the drive was important because “…as a parent it’s heartbreaking for me to think of all the children that will spend Christmas away from home in a hospital” because of treatment. “Anything we can do to bring a smile to their faces and make them forget for a moment about the difficult time they are going through is priceless.” Because of her advocacy, employees donated toys throughout the month of December. Each day, her office space shrunk as more and more toys rolled in. In the end, Yanita and her co-workers at Equity were able to make a sizable impact with many new toys for local children undergoing treatment for serious illnesses. What’s more, Yanita is already preparing to be just as involved in the new year. “Equity’s commitment to social responsibility is a chance to give back to our communities and create a positive impact both at work and at home. I am proud to work for a company that takes corporate citizenship to heart.” Thank you to all the Chicago employees who participated in this accomplishment.
